Taskforce on Ocean Governance

Call for paper abstracts on Earth System Governance for Blue Growth (2018 Utrecht ESG conference)

Much is expected of ‘Blue Growth’ as it simultaneously allows for economic development whilst also protecting our marine environment. Many questions remain about the Blue Economy in practice, however, especially in relation to how social, environmental and economic objectives can be successfully integrated, and how trade-offs between these objectives are made within and across individual Blue Economy sectors.

This panel seeks to foster discussion within the ESG community on the Earth System Governance for Blue Growth. This panel aims to bring together scholars studying Blue Economy developments to discuss how ESG research can contribute to a sustainable and equitable Blue Economy. This panel welcomes papers that are based on the 5 A’s of the ESG Project and the 2018 conference streams (i.e. on Architecture, Agency, Accountability, Allocation and Access and Adaptiveness). Papers are encouraged to reflect on the emergence and implementation of Blue Growth within Blue Economy sectors, through key governance institutions or complexes or within a specific region, while questioning issues of Architecture, Agency, Accountability, Allocation and Access and Adaptiveness.

Call for abstracts: Paper abstracts should be up to 400 words. Please indicate your interest for this panel before 9 March 2018 to Judith van Leeuwen (Judith.vanleeuwen@wur.nl) or Michelle Voyer (mvoyer@uow.edu.au). The deadline for the submission of abstracts to Judith or Michelle is 15th of March 2018.
